Moving House? Time to declutter before you pack

Moving House? Time to de-clutter before you pack

If you’re thinking of putting your home on the Cape realty market, one of the best investments you can make is to de-clutter your living space. It won’t cost you a cent!

A clean, clutter-free home won’t just make it easier to move - it will help you to sell your home faster too. Show days are a big deal when it comes to selling your home - and clutter can be a deal breaker.

Before you break out the gloves and rubbish bags, it’s always good to know where to start! Here are some of the most cluttered areas in any home - and some hints on how to de-clutter them.

It’s time for your clutter to come out of the closet

Have you ever seen those beautiful linen cupboards in designer homes, with their neat shelves and hotel-quality white linen perfectly pressed?

That’s how everyone’s cupboard should look in an ideal world - but the reality is, hardly anyone’s does!

The average family’s cupboards are full of old, faded sheets, pillowcases, and tablecloths - and maybe even some boxes full of junk that don’t belong there in the first place!

  • Go through your linen cupboard and show no mercy. If you haven’t used something in over a year, or if it’s unusable or just not your style, it’s time to get rid of it.
  • You can do the same thing with your kitchen cupboards. Get rid of those pots without a lid and saucers that lost their cups in unfortunate accidents…
  • As for the pantry, once you know you are moving be sure to start eating up all that’s there rather and check the sell by dates. There’s little point in packing tins from 2009 when you move!
  • Finally, that bedroom cupboard. Single socks, old T-shirts, and giveaway ties that nobody is ever going to wear are all on your hit list.
There’s no need throw your unwanted linen, crockery, kitchenware and clothing away. Items in good condition can be given away, and there’s no better cleaning cloth than old sheets, an old t-shirt or sock!

Go clutter-hunting for a cleaner home interior

Once you're done with the cupboards, it's time to hunt down any surviving clutter!

Take a walk around your home and use the 12 month rule to get rid of anything that’s not useful anymore. You’ll be amazed at how much neater your living areas will look!

If selling your residential property is on your to-do list, we’d love to help you tick that box.
